COMEL AWARD VANNA MIGLIORIN 2025

Aluminium, the Silent Strength – The Winners

Great success for the award ceremony of the XII edition of the COMEL Award Vanna Migliorin Contemporary Art, the international competition that for twelve editions has promoted the creative use of aluminium in contemporary art.

In a crowded Spazio COMEL, with the full jury present and ten of the thirteen finalist artists attending, the winner was announced: Alice Corbetta with her work “Memorie in superficie” (Memories on the Surface). According to the jury, chaired by Prof. Giorgio Agnisola, the piece represents this year’s theme, “Aluminium, the Silent Strength”, in an original and poetic way, thanks to its complex and refined workmanship, capable of enhancing the material while at the same time evoking memories and suggestions.

The jury also awarded four special mentions to: Margherita Cavallo (Sono una Creatura), Sigita Dackevičiūtė (Structural Object: Alternatives), Simona Mastropietro (Gesture II), and Mario Viezzoli (Traforo 100).

The Audience Award, assigned based on visitors’ preferences, was particularly competitive: this year the recognition went ex aequo to Fatma Ibrahimi for Bituminifera Divisa and Claudio Sapienza for Pagine di Esistenza. This result confirms both the quality and variety of the works in competition and the passionate participation of the public.

All thirteen finalists demonstrated great sensitivity in interpreting the theme “The Silent Strength”, offering a profound reflection on the ductility of aluminium and its aesthetic potential.

The jury’s words were moving, highlighting not only the journey undertaken by the COMEL Award since its inception, but also its humanity, hospitality, and conviviality—values that are those of art itself: a language that brings together people from different countries, speaking different languages and coming from distant cultures.

During the discussion, the versatility of aluminium was also emphasized: a material open to infinite transformations which, in the hands of artists, becomes a vehicle of fascination, emotion, and technical mastery.

The appointment with the COMEL Award is renewed for next year, with a new edition that will continue to explore the many characteristics of this metal, inviting artists to shape and transform it into a communicative tool of both strength and poetry.
