COMEL Award IX edition: jury appointed

The ninth edition of the COMEL Award continues: while numerous registrations are arriving for the call which will be open until June 21st, the Endless Aluminium jury has been appointed.

A very high-profile jury, as usual;it will be chaired by Giorgio Agnisola, art critic and writer, professor of sacred art at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy. Alongside him in the selection of this year’s 13 finalists: Giulia Palma, Director of the Bioiconographic Archive and Historical Funds of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome; Marilena Vita, artist, performer, event curator, and art critic; Michelangelo Giovinale, professor of art history, freelance curator, art critic; Maria Gabriella Mazzola representing CO.ME.L. promoter and sponsor of the Award.

A jury that reasonably represents the top of the tops among Italian criticism and curatorship experts, they belong to several generations and can share different experiences to evaluate better the hundreds of entries from all over the European continent and select only the 13 works that better declined the theme of this year through the processing of aluminium and which will be exhibited next autumn at the Spazio COMEL in Latina.

For this year’s theme, Endless Aluminum, we focused on the ability of aluminium to be totally recycled countless times without ever losing its characteristics, so this metal has the possibility of living several different existences, infinite new beginnings, opening up to new possibilities basically forever.

Registration for the call is free, all adult artists who live and work in the countries of the European continent can enroll, presenting a work that uses aluminium as the only or main element. There is a cash prize of 3500 euros for the winner and the opportunity to be the protagonist of a solo show at the Spazio COMEL Arte Contemporanea in Latina, with its dedicated catalog.

Registration is open until June 21, 2022.
