A celebration of Contemporary Art in Aluminum

There was a large audience at the opening of the exhibition ‘Sinuosity of Aluminium’ at gallery Spazio COMEL, on Saturday, Oct. 7.

The concluding part of the Sixth edition of the ‘COMEL Award Vanna Migliorin Contemporary Art’ officially entered the conclusive part, recording a huge interest among artists and art followers.
The exhibition will remain open until October 28, the day of the proclamation of the winner of the jury and the winner of the public. Visitors can vote for their favorite works until 22 October.

In the style of COMEL gallery, the Vernissage became a celebration of art, with the presence of some artists of the previous editions, who did not hesitate to cover even long distances just to be present, along with local artists, and the public of special occasions. There were 11 of the 13 finalist artists: Emilio Alberti (Como) Daniela Bellofiore (Rome), Cosimo Figliuolo (Matera), Lorenzo Galligani (Florence), George King (London), Darko Kuzmanovich (Belgrade), Elisabetta Onorati (Cagliari) Franco Politano (Catania), Silvia Sbardella (Frosinone).

Also the winner of the first edition (2012), the engraver Massimiliano Drisaldi, and the winner of the last edition (2016), Luce Delhove, artist and Professor at the Accademia di Brera participated in the opening.

During the presentation speech, the promoter Maria Gabriella Mazzola, has underlined the ever-increasing success of the Prize editions, though emerging from a small gallery of a small town, thanks to a close and professional team who believed in the ambitious project from the very beginning.

The international clamor of the Prize and the interest raised in the most important artistic environments, said the President of the Jury, Giorgio Agnisola, is due to the great family passion that distinguishes the Prize and to the will to eliminate the territorial boundaries in the name of a European continent united in the sign of art. It must be stressed, he said, artists from previous editions, never miss the most important moments of the various editions of the Prize, and the festive climate helps to create lasting friendships and collaborations.

The juror Marco Nocca (Historian of Art, Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome) praised the choice of creating a prize dedicated to a specific material, aluminum, allowing artists to express themselves in technical mastery that the selected material forces somehow to use. Artistic freedom, he pointed out, also stems from constraints.

The COMEL Space gallery, elected place for contemporary art, has always been a hub of different artistic languages. That is why the evening was enlivened by the musical frame of the Maestros Lucia Dorelli (violin) and Fabrizio Dell’Anna (cello).
